Tattoo Removal Lasers

Tattoo removal lasers are very effective at breaking down the ink in an unwanted tattoo. Generally, two wavelengths of light are used to break down a wide spectrum of tattoo ink. The 1064nm wavelength is used for darker colors - black, dark blue, brown, purple, and similar colors. The 532nm wavelength is used for red, orange, green, yellow, and other lighter colors. The most difficult colors to remove are light green and blue, green, , teal, and turquoise.

Top tattoo removal clinics will be able to remove a tattoo with minor side effects. The most common side effects, when a modern tattoo removal laser is used (such as cynosures affinity) include redness and swelling. In the case of some dark tattoos and most light tattoos, some blistering may occur for up to a week after the treatment. These side effects are part of the normal healing process, the body is responding to the tattoo laser treatment by activating tools that will flush away the ink that has been broken down. There is almost no risk of scarring when the clinic uses a late model laser, be aware of old equipment that looks like it came from the 1970s or 1980s. Alternative medical or surgical treatments involve long-term side effects that are unnecessary.

Tattoo removal lasers are much faster and less traumatic to the skin than previous technologies, rendering the treatment much more comfortable. The impact of the energy from the lasers powerful pulse of light has been described as similar to getting snapped by a thin hot, rubber band. Methods for anesthesia vary from a zimmer air chiller, topical or injectable anesthesia. In preparation for a laser procedure, we recommend that non-aspirin products, like tylenol, be used for minor aches and pains prior to the procedure, because aspirin and non steroidal anti-inflammatory agents such as ibuprofen can lead to bruising after treatment. The tattoo removal laser treatment involves delivering intense pulses of light from the laser into the skin with absorption by the tattoo pigment which is fragmented. The treatment will leave the skin mildly red and may result in pin point bleeding or blistering. One may notice a temporary whitening of the tattoo and swelling of the skin in the region. Over the next few weeks, the bodys scavenger cells remove pigment residues. One begins to notice lightening of the tattoo approximately two weeks post treatment and this will continue for four to six weeks.
